GOOD NEWS! JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD

One of the most important discoveries in our spiritual journey is to first fully understand WHO JESUS IS. The scripture is clearly plain here as it states, Jesus is the Son of God. The scripture rarely makes a statement like this without some kind of evidence to support it. This is the most powerful supporting evidence for declaring Jesus to be the Son of God when He was raised from the dead. This declaration is supported by many substantial eye witness accounts in scripture.

Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve. After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles. I Corinthians 15:3-7 NLT

I love this acclamation of who Jesus is from the Apostle John.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind... John 1:1-4 NLT

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have SEEN HIS GLORY of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 NLT

We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw Him with our own eyes and touched Him with our hands. He is the Word of Life. This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen Him.  And now we testify and proclaim to you that He is the one who is eternal life. He was with the Father and then He was revealed to us. We proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard so that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with His son, Jesus Christ. We are writing these things so that you may fully share our joy. 1 John 1:1-4 NLT

John is writing about his personal experience with Jesus.

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have SEEN HIS GLORY of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 NLT

He testifies and gives us his legal eye witness account and assurance that Jesus is a real, living, and breathing human being whom he knew, lived with and experienced life with. He wants to share with us this GOOD NEWS that Jesus Christ is the THE WORD OF LIFE; who exists from eternity, before time began and who is the ONE AND ONLY SON OF the living GOD revealed to us in human flesh, having the same nature and essence as God, the creator of LIFE ITSELF and the source of LIFE FOREVER. In his writing he declares that he has seen and heard and had an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and now we can partner with and share in the same benefits, the fellowship with the Father and his Son, Jesus Christ so we may experience unspeakable joy.

What more credible evidence do we have than this? Jesus Christ: the Son of God, the Word of Life and source of Forever Life.

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name he gave the right to become children of God... John 1:12-13 NLT

Jesus speaking...

I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10 NIV

This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and the One You have sent—Jesus Christ. John 17:3 HSBC

I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him. John 14:6-7 NLT

The one who believes in the Son has eternal life, but the one who refuses to believe in the Son will not see life; instead, the wrath of God remains on him. John 3:36 HCSB

Jesus is shown to be the Son of God when He was raised from the dead. He has promised us life to the full and this Forever Life begins here and now when we believe and trust Him as Savior. Jesus came into the world as God in the flesh in order to show us who the Father is, "you do know him and have seen him."  Jesus is the only way to the Father and He tells us that He is this Forever Life. This Forever Life begins with a personal relationship with the Father, the ONE and ONLY GOD & JESUS CHRIST, the one He sent. This personal relationship begins now and lasts to eternity that we may have FOREVER LIFE NOW AND FOREVER.

Jesus ends his ministry on earth with this prayer for you.

By the Power of His Name You have Eternal Life
“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you. For you have given him authority over everyone. He gives eternal life to each one you have given him.
And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth. I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began...

“I have revealed you to the ones you gave me from this world. They were always yours. You gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know that everything I have is a gift from you, for I have passed on to them the message you gave me. They accepted it and know that I came from you, and they believe you sent me.

By the Power of His Name He will Protect you
“My prayer is not for the world, but for those you have given me, because they belong to you. All who are mine belong to you, and you have given them to me, so they bring me glory. Now I am departing from the world; they are staying in this world, but I am coming to you. Holy Father, you have given me your name; now protect them by the power of your name so that they will be united just as we are. During my time here, I protected them by the power of the name you gave me. I guarded them so that not one was lost, except the one headed for destruction, as the Scriptures foretold.

“Now I am coming to you. I told them many things while I was with them in this world so they would be filled with my joy. I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. They do not belong to this world any more than I do. Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. 18 Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world. And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth.

By the Power of His Name you are One with Him
“I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.

“I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me. Father, I want these whom you have given me to be with me where I am. Then they can see all the glory you gave me because you loved me even before the world began!

“O righteous Father, the world doesn’t know you, but I do; and these disciples know you sent me. I have revealed you to them, and I will continue to do so. Then your love for me will be in them, and I will be in them.” John 17:1-26 NLT

Ken Campbell is the Senior Pastor of Capital City Baptist Church.  I asked Ken how the Lord is working good in his church in the midst of these challenging times.  Read his encouraging response, and pray with me that the Lord will continue to use Ken and Capital City Baptist Church in a great ways for His kingdom!

Generally speaking, I believe it would be safe to say that for nearly all of us, no life experience has prepared us for what we have experienced the last 6 months; unless possibly you lived through the Great Depression in the 20th century. I can say that no training I received in Bible college or Seminary has trained me for this type of ministry the last few months!

Clint Eastwood once said in a movie that Marines “improvise, adapt and overcome!” If you are a current or former Marine, please check me on that one! I think to a certain extent pastors have improvised their worship service format, adapted to safety guidelines, and overcome the obstacles that have been laid in front of us. This certainly does not make us Marines, but it certainly illustrates that we are in a battle—the battle for the soul (Eph.6:12). With so many trials, troubles and turmoil placed before us, we can only but “press on” as Paul admonishes his brothers and sisters at Philippi.  (Phil.3:14)

As with many or our SBC churches, CCBC is not any different, with a large percentage of mature adults. In preparation for COVID, God saw fit to bring several wonderful younger and middle-aged people to our church. In the time leading up to February, we had seen an increase in service attendance. This certainly has impacted us in a favorable manner as we have been able to respond to the needs of our people in different—and new—ways. We are excited about what God has done to enable us to continue to meet in small groups via technology. God “pushed” us into the digital realm that we had been so reluctant to enter; and now can offer our worship services over the internet to not just those who cannot attend due to COVID, but now also to so many of our shut-ins we had not been able to reach. We are also excited about what we do not know—how many that are hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ—maybe for the first time.

While we certainly miss our time of face to face fellowship, God has blessed us with the ability to meet in different fashions. We are now meeting in-person in an outdoor venue in the big parking lot we have with lots of “overgrown” trees that provide us shade. Must be the reason we just didn’t get to all that maintenance this last year! God provides! And we see it time after time.

Once last word…I have been guiding us through Psalm 10-13 on Sunday mornings—the Questions David asked in the midst of his praise. We find we are asking the same questions of “why, what, when and how long?” But David’s answer is consistent in his situation and ours. Remember, remember, remember. Remember WHO our God is! He writes:

“The LORD is King forever and ever; Nations have perished from His land. O LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their heart, You will incline Your ear To vindicate the orphan and the oppressed, So that man who is of the earth will no longer cause terror.” (Psalms 10:16-18)
